In Guatemala City:

Tapachula is not directly on the border. A cheaper, but much more complicated method involves taking a combi (micro-bus) between Tapachula and one of two nearby small border towns. On the Guatemala side of the border a series of local buses are need for the connection.

Tapachula is connected by direct buses with Tuxtla Gutiérrez (7 hours), San Cristobal de las Casas (7 hours), Oaxaca (12 hours) and Mexico City (18 hours).

Don't expect a city in Ciudad Cuauhtémoc. You will need a good detailed map to find it or La Mesilla. The tiny town is connected by bus to San Cristobal de las Casas (2.5 hours). Locals buses are used on the Guatemala side with connections often made through Huehuetenango.

                    In Chetumal there are two locations for bus connecting to Belize:

Buses headed for Belize begin at the Nuevo Mercado Lázaro Cárdenas. Some will make a stop at the Terminal de Autobuses. The first stop in Belize will be at the colorful border town of Corozal Town. They continue on through Orange Walk to Belize City. The buses of Maya Mundo continue on after Belize City to Flores, Guatemala. From Flores there are connections to Tikal and Guatemala City.

Note: The connections between Chetumal and Belize may change. For a short time bus service was suspended by the Mexican government, but after a new agreement, it was restored. Novelo’s Bus Service, which in the past has been accused of a near monoply through corruption, has recently gone bankrupt. The creditors have continued running the company.
