Google Maps / LarpMax
The Google Maps website allows visitors to view the world in three modes: maps, satelite views and hybrid, which superimposes some map elements over satellite views. The system is upgraded frequently. At the present time, only the satellite view feature is useful for Mexico, but what a wonderful feature it is. You can go to directly to the website and begin exploring by clicking the Google Maps logo.

Within larpman.com, I have devised alternate version of the Google satellite views that takes advantage of the maximum amount of window space. I refer to this enlarged format as LarpMax. To fully take advantage of the LarpMax view, the window should be at maximize size. Those without broadband may find that it takes too long to load and may wish to use the regular Google map views instead.

Individual Sites

I have located satellite views of 97 individual places in Mexico. Links to these views have been organized into 5 pages. There are 4 alphabetical pages plus a page of detailed sites in Mexico City and the nearby ruins of Teotihuacan.

Some lesser known places have been included because you are able to zoom all the ways in on them. I was pleased when I realized that one of the small places I had found in full detail was the friendly village of Huaquechula, Puebla.

Using Google Maps

There are 18 levels of magnification, but the bottom two bottom two serve no really use.

In urban and some other areas of the U.S., you can zoom all the way to the top level. Within Mexico, far fewer areas allow you to zoom all the way. Outside of Mexico City the areas chosen seem to be random.

The small city of Taxco is available at all levels, but not major cities like Guadalajara and Monterey. While Cuernavaca cannot be seen in full detail, some mountainous areas around it can.

Use the zoom bar at the top left of the window to move in and out. You can slide the movable bar, click on a level of magnification, or click the + and - symbols at the top and bottom.

Double click any spot to center it.

Scrolling is much smoother with Google Maps than with sites such as Map Quest and Expedia.

You can use the arrows at the top left and watch the map smoothly scroll. Better yet, click and hold any area of the map and drag it in any direction.
